Sat,Sun Valaam island is a very picturousque place of old Finland. It is located in the Northern part of the Ladoga lake. You will see quite unexpected nature which a traveller who has seen before only usual Russian landscapes will never recognize as Russian: wild and glum, but nice in its severity, with bluff rocks, ravines covered with forests, sloping down to the lake, bays bordered by granite rocks in which clear waters sleep unmolested while savage storm rages in the lake.
You will see a monastery on a high hill earlier covered with moth and then cleared by monks. The foundation of the monastery dates back to the first years of Christian belief in Russia. Discuss in a forum (messages: 26) Updated at 26.03.2007 |
