Karelian Crafts in Interior Design Market
This year the summer exhibition at the Vykhod Media Center is something unusual - it is not a traditional gifts and souvenir fair but a design market “Karelian Crafts in Interior”.
The background of the exhibition is the project entitled “Actualization of female crafts in Karelia: from tradition to a trend” that was implemented in the Republic of Karelia in 2016. The idea of the project was to create craft items that would fit into a modern apartment or house and at the same time would be made in traditional craft techniques (project manager - Svetlana Kolchurina, designer - Valentina Silkina). One of the results of the project was a “Karelian Crafts in Interior” catalogue - in it all the items are already placed in the interior, arranged in rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, children’s rooms, and hallways. In March 2017 the catalogue items were successfully presented at the “Russian Souvenir” exhibition of folk crafts at the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Center in Paris.
Karelian Crafts in Interior Design Market continues the work for promotion the best practices of creative industries’ development in Karelia. Artisans, craftsmen and young designers show their collections of home items, which were already presented in the catalogue, and absolutely new, designed in 2016-2017. About 20 artisans take part in the exhibition. Most of them are from Petrozavodsk, and there are also artisans from Olonets and Kondopoga regions.
“Take Karelian with you” is the motto of the design market. The main message of the exhibition is showcase and sale of stylish and practical items for home interior. The space of the Vykhod Media Center has transformed into a modern studio apartment to demonstrate how decor items could live in it. All the items presented are for sale. A visitor can find textile, ceramics, glass, wooden items on the example of home interior, and imagine how they would look at one’s home, learn about their authors, choose and buy a favorite one.
Exhibition is open every day all summer long from 12.00 to 19.00. Enter free.
