Karelian state museum of regional history presents
Exhibition Exhibition «Fauna of Karelia»It is located in the separate building on Engels street, 5 and takes two floors.
In the first hall there are inhabitants of numerous streams, forest lakes, rivers and lakes (beavers, muskrats, minks, water birds) which represent Karelia as a Land of Water. The inimitable landscapes and lively seashore colonies of birds are set apart as a separate installation.
4 colourful installations in the second hall – wood grouses and black grouses, numerous owls, moose, deer and bears – will show Karelia as a Kingdom of Taiga.
One can receive more detailed information about the types of reservoirs, their conditions and use in the third hall. 12 fish species, lake flora and seaweed from the White Sea are presented there.
The fourth hall is devoted to insects, the largest group of the creatures on the planet. Various butterflies, Swallowtail, Peacock Eye… The insects’ world is a marvelous parallel universe that exists next to us.
